Engro Corporation Limited held a grand ceremony to celebrate and recognize the accomplishments of the three eminent Pakistanis chosen as the recipients of the first Engro Excellence Awards 2011.
These Awards have been developed as annual prestigious civilian awards for the people of Pakistan, and the recipients are Abdul Sattar Edhi for Social and Humanitarian Services, Dr Atta-ur-Rahman for Physical and Applied Sciences and Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi for Literature.

Asad Umar, President and Chief Executive, Engro Corp highlighted, “Pakistan has a reservoir of talent, which given the right opportunities and encouragement can achieve the same results as the best in the world. These Awards are meant to recognize those who have achieved excellence in their fields and contributed to society and encourage the youth to follow their passion and try and emulate or even surpass these icons of excellence.”
The process of determining nominees and winners was carried out by an independent jury comprising of five of Pakistan’s most esteemed personalities, each of whom is considered a symbol of excellence and beacon of hope in their relevant fields. Dr Ishrat Hussain, Chairman of the jury, was assisted by Dr Iqbal Choudhary, Dr Nafis Sadik, Prof Anita Ghulam Ali and Mr Iftikhar Arif. The recipients were selected based on lifetime accomplishments and excellence in their respective fields and were presented an Engro Excellence Medallion as well a cash prize of PKR 5 Million each.
Dr Ishrat Hussain, Chairman of the Jury highlighted, “I am extremely delighted that Engro Corp has taken this noble initiative to recognize the services of eminent Pakistanis who have excelled and made outstanding contributions in their respective fields. I hope that these awards will inspire many younger Pakistanis to dedicate themselves to hard work so that they can excel in all areas of their lives. Only those nations who recognize and revere their meritorious citizens can succeed, make headway and prosper.”
The Engro Excellence Awards and its ceremony have been developed to redefine the standards for excellence for honoring Pakistan’s finest talent. The Awards ended on a high note with live performances by a number of artistes, who mesmerized the crowd with some of Pakistan’s best musical hits.
